If you’ve been using a CPAP for years, you know the drill: the awkward beginnings, the late-night adjustments, the moment you realized you actually felt human again after a full night of sleep. Once you’ve made it through the learning curve, you realize it’s not just a machine—it’s something that helps you feel more like you. That’s why Jack Black’s recent conversation with Amy Poehler might hit close to home.
On her podcast, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the comedy duo bonded over something unexpectedly relatable—their CPAP machines.
“Are you a snorer? Do you snore?” Amy asked.
“I do,” Jack replied. “I have a CPAP machine.”
“So do I!” Amy exclaimed.
Cue the high five.
“CPAP team unite,” Jack declared.
From there, the two launched into a joyful, unapologetic celebration of sleep therapy. “My CPAP machine was a game changer,” Jack said.
“Changed my life,” Amy agreed.
“And now, I can't sleep without it," Jack added.
“Never want to [sleep without it]!” Amy chimed in.
And of course, in true Jack and Amy fashion, they didn’t miss the chance to laugh about it. They joked about how CPAP masks can kill the vibe at bedtime—comparing the look to Darth Vader—and how Amy even featured her own machine in a movie “to make sure I never got laid again.” Jack followed up with a wisecrack about needing to sleep sitting up like the Elephant Man if he doesn’t wear his mask. “If I lay down flat, I might die,” he quipped.
But all jokes aside, CPAP is no laughing matter. It’s a lifesaving sleep therapy. For the millions living with obstructive sleep apnea, CPAP therapy dramatically improves sleep quality, reduces the risk of serious health issues, and restores energy, focus, and mood. And as Jack bluntly put it, skipping CPAP leads to “terrible headaches and nightmares.”
So if you're still on the fence about starting CPAP, or you're struggling to stay consistent, just remember: you're in some pretty great company—and you don’t have to sacrifice your sense of humor to take your sleep seriously.
